Goings on

Some weeks are just, well... crazy. Whether it's work, the kids, social commitments, or a combination of all three, before you know it you're spinning like a top and all you want is for the world to just STOP already so you can step off and take a breather, maybe have an iced cappuccino or something.

This week has sort of been like that for me (heck, this MONTH has been like that!). Phil's out of town on business, and though I'm incredibly blessed to have family close by, not to mention the most thoughtful, caring neighbours in the history of the known universe, it's always a wee bit totally exhausting.

And yet... there have been some gems as well. That's what I try to focus on when the kids are in bed and I can once again form a coherent thought, anyway.

For instance, I attended the first of what will most likely be a long series of school plays last night! Émilie's entire grade put on a really impressive show, about a group of kids who find a magic passport that lets them visit the 7 wonders of the world. Each class represented a different wonder, and Émilie's class was Petra.

Yup! It was a great moment, one that as a Mom you just know is going to be embedded in your memory forever. I was pretty psyched, let me tell you. Her group came on the stage, and I... um... didn't recognize her. *Sigh* In my defense, we were seated very far away and ALL the kids in her group were wearing the same costume, but still... it made for a wee bit of an anticlimactic moment, you know?

At least I managed to spot her in the grand finale!!!The weather this week has been just wonderful (FINALLY), so another highlight has been the putting on of the bathing suits and the playing outside as soon as we get home.

'cause, yeah, of COURSE you'd put the four-wheeler in the pool! Who wouldn't???

And yes, there's also been the odd bit o' knitting here and there as well.

I cast on a pair of Wednesday socks last week, using String Theory Caper sock yarn in the Garnet colourway. I think it's safe to say that these are going to be the Best. Socks. Evah.

The Big Three

Well HI there! Alright, I could give y'all the usual schtick about how busy I've been, how sorry I am that I've been MIA for (gulp) almost 2 weeks, yadayadayada... But I'm not going to. The truth is that, well... I just haven't really felt like blogging lately.

There. I said it. I haven't felt very bloggy, blogish, blog-worthy. But in my infinite wisdom, I've discovered that sometimes you need to get back on the horse to re-discover your love of riding. You need to get back on the treadmill to remember that, hey, this running stuff is actually pretty cool. And you need to put up a blog post, even a mediocre one, to remember why you fell in love with this form of communication in the first place.

So! Today isn't a knit-related post, I'm afraid. No, there's been an event at Casa De Dear that, I think, takes precedence over this love affair I have with string. And that's my little Maxime's third birthday. Yup, my little man turned THREE big ones on Friday. I think it's safe to say that he's now OFFICIALLY not a baby anymore.

The day started out simply enough. It was a work/school day, so we got up at 6, had our usual breakfast, and set about accomplishing our goal for the morning: getting one kid positively giddy with excitement whilst simultaneously reducing the other to tears because "He's getting all the attention and it's NOT FAIR". *Sigh*

They had a lovely party for him at daycare, and that night the four of us enjoyed a wee cake and Maxime got to open a few more gifts.

At this point the fatigue and sugar kicked in for both, and the shrieking commenced, so we put 'em both to bed and tried to gather what little strength we had to get ready for the traditional birthday BBQ we usually have for the kids' birthdays (we don't really do the mega-kid-party until they're 4).

We ate, we enjoyed the company of a few friends we haven't seen in a good long while, and now... I'm positively exhausted! But oh so proud of my 2, beautiful children. We done good, dear.

Knowing how to accessorize

We've had the oddest weather 'round these here parts over the past few days. Mother Nature definitely needs to look into getting herself some Prozac or sumn', because 4 days ago it was friggin' SNOWING here, and now I'm sitting in short and flip-flops and complaining about how hot and muggy it is. Honestly.... what UP with dat?

The good thing about Spring finally springing is that we'll all be able to move into our Spring and Summer wardrobes, as we've been doing over the past few weeks, only *fingers crossed* for real this time.

Honeybee will of course be making an appearance yet again, as soon as I've gotten the buttons sewn on.

I received my order from Jennie the Potter a few weeks ago, and am seriously contemplating getting off my arse already and sewing on the gosh darn buttons. Aren't they pretty??? I dunno about you, but I really feel it's important to have the right buttons for a project, you know? Especially one that required So. Much. Work.

In other knitting news, progress continues on the second Nebula sock. I've turned the heel (finally!) and hope to have some FO shots to share with you soon!
